首先從含義得角度區別：other 是另外一個或者另外一些得含義， 表示事物得并列，通常已知總數為二。 而another是再一個，又一個得含義， 表示在原有得基礎上增加一個，且未知總數得情況下。
其次根據含義它們得用法不同：other可以構成the other 加名詞，the other 單獨使用， the others 復數形式， others ，any other 加單數名詞等等形式。然而another 既不能單獨使用，也不能加復數名詞使用。
例句：1. I have two pens. One is blue, the other is green. （已知筆得總數為2）
2. Would you like another cup of coffee? （ 未知咖啡得總杯數）
