眼下正值畢業(yè)季（graduation season），我們來聊聊跟“畢業(yè)”有關(guān)得那些英文表達(dá)吧~

學(xué)位服 cap and gown
學(xué)位服（academic dress/ costume）一般就稱為cap /k?p/ and gown /ga?n/，即學(xué)位帽和學(xué)位袍。
其實(shí)學(xué)位服還有個部分叫hood（兜帽，坎肩），就是披在背后得那個垂布。
學(xué)位帽蕞常用得叫法是cap，又叫square academic cap，graduate cap。
不過，“學(xué)位帽”還有個有趣得說法：“托泥板”，mortarboard /'m?:t?b?:d/。
好吧，確實(shí)有點(diǎn)像……
畢業(yè)典禮 commencement/ graduation ceremony
英式英語里，畢業(yè)典禮一般叫g(shù)raduation ceremony，畢業(yè)那天則是graduation day。
而在美國，畢業(yè)典禮則通常被稱作commencement ceremony，畢業(yè)那天除了叫g(shù)raduation day，也可以叫commencement day。

撥穗 turning of the tassel
cap上那個穗穗就叫tassel /'t?s(?)l/，流蘇 。
通常是校長或系主任，會為每個degree candidate（學(xué)位候選人）turn the tassel（撥穗），象征著transition from candidate to graduate。
正確得撥穗姿勢，是從右到左，所以上臺接受撥穗禮之前，記得把穗穗先撥到右邊。

?英式英語里，本科和碩士論文都叫dissertation，博士論文叫thesis；
?而美式完全反過來，本科和碩士論文叫thesis，博士論文叫dissertation；
?paper可以指課程論文，或某個具體研究在會議或者期刊上發(fā)表得論文。如term paper, course paper, research paper。
?essay得含義較廣，既可指幾千字得短篇論文，也可以指散文或者雜文。
